It turns out that Steve Barton, who owns that building at Sixth and Stevenson that houses the Passion Café, is in fact stepping away from the restaurant as suggested by those signs we heard about Monday. Barton, 62, tells the story to Chuck Nevius about the guy who showed up not once, but twice to rob the restaurant. After he’d stolen a couple of flat-screen TVs off the wall, he returned the next morning, and Barton ran up from the basement when he heard him. The thief broke a bottle over Barton’s head, but Barton still managed to chase him down the street and knock him to the ground, exchanging punches with him until the police arrived.
Now Barton, who still insists that Sixth Street is “more civilized” than ever, is fed up and looking for a new operator for the restaurant, though he’s holding on to the building. Nevius, of course, is mostly interested in being all “I told you so” about the whole Sixth Street revitalization thing.
