Longtime chef David Tanis, who has worked at Chez Panisse on and off since the 1980s, will be retiring from his post this fall, as the Scoop is reporting. Lately Tanis has been splitting the year with co-chef Jean-Pierre Moullé, working in Berkeley during the spring and summer months and living in Paris the other half of the year hosting a private dining club. The restaurant isn’t yet saying who might be Tanis’s replacement, like if they’ll be promoting from within or what. (That would be our guess.) There should be a few more details in tomorrow’s Inside Scoop print column. [Scoop] Update: It turns out Tanis will be doing a column for the New York Times. He’ll be leaving his post at Chez Panisse as soon as the 40th Anniversary celebrations are complete, in September. [Chron]
