Back Alley Wine Bar The Hidden Vine to Become a Slightly Different Wine Bar

The wine bar thing shows no signs of abating, and today Grub Street learns that The Hidden Vine, the bar back behind the Fitzgerald Hotel near Union Square, will be morphing into something called The Barrel Room. The cozy, den-like spot with the entrance at 1/2 Cosmo Place (across from Le Colonial on the alley off of Taylor near Post) debuted six years ago and immediately got attention for its dark and romantic setting. Now, Hidden Vine sommelier Nicole Goddard and partner Sarah Trubnick are in the process of taking over the business, and aren’t likely to change much besides the name. Update: Tablehopper reports they will be significantly updating the wine list.

This switch follows the transformation of CAV into a different wine bar called Pause (from the Yield Wine Bar team); the morphing of Parea Wine Bar on Valencia into yet another wine bar-sounding concept; the new barrel-themed blind-tasting bar Barrique; the transformation of Good Pizza (7th and Mission) into a “wine tavern”; and the rejiggering of Red + White in Glen Park into the very similar Sel et Vin, with a new food menu from Le P’tit Laurent chef Laurent Legendre.
