Check Out Xolo: The Menu, the Tacos, and the Digs, Now Open In Oakland

Xolo (1916 Telegraph), the aforementioned next-door taqueria from the Flora (and Doña Tomas) team of Dona Savitsky and Thomas Schnetz, opened today. (The name comes from a breed of Mexican hairless dog that goes back 3,000 years, full name: Xoloitzcuintle.) We hopped in to sample some tacos, and we can already declare the Vampiro (al pastor, salsa ranchera, red onions, serrano chilis, and cilantro on a fried-cheese tortilla) a sure winner. Also of note, they're doing bacon-wrapped hot dogs with the works and calling them Danger Dogs, the chile verde is very delicious, and on weekends they'll be doing birria (goat braised in a chile broth, served with rice and tortillas).
