It can be tough to find some of the basic staples of East Coast comfort cuisine out here — good hoagies (or grinders or heroes depending on where you’re from), calzones, strombolis, and cheesesteaks aren’t exactly indigenous to these parts. Today the East Bay Express notes the trend of transplanted East Coasters opening sandwich shops and other eateries paying tribute to the foods they miss most from back home. They note Uncle Dougie’s, Flavor Brigade, and Scolari’s, but to that list we’d add Southie (which even named itself after a Boston neighborhood). And over in the West Bay: Jersey’s on 6th, and The Sycamore.
