‘The Pliny Song’ Educates Beer Lovers About This Pliny the Elder Fellow

San Francisco band The Famous, who seem to have a thing for beer in general and Russian River Brewing Co. in particular, wrote a song to perform at the 40th birthday party of Russian River’s brewmaster Vinnie Cilurzo which is about Pliny the Elder, both the man, and the much lauded Imperial IPA that bears his name. Now, the band has made a music video for the song, which begins with a little historic narration. News to us: Pliny, the Ancient Roman naturalist, gave hops its Latin name, Lupus salictarius, which translates as “wolf among scrubs.”

Watch: it’s fun.
