It’s home to the city’s greatest concentration of strip clubs, old-school watering holes, Italian delis and bakeries, Beat Generation landmarks, and tourist-friendly Italian eateries — not to mention Daniel Patterson’s Coi and the classed-up Barbary Coast throwback Comstock Saloon. It’s called North Beach, and this week the Chron put together a nice photo essay of (arguably) the city’s most iconic and historically intact neighborhood, including nods to Tony Gemignani, and Carol Doda (pictured) — the former topless dancer who now sings occasionally in the back of Gino & Carlo Cocktail Lounge.
