Just as El Paseo, the steakhouse venture he co-owns with celebrity chef Tyler Florence, opens in Mill Valley, former Van Halen guitarist Sammy Hagar gets a profile in the Chronicle, in which we learn several things we didn’t know, including the fact that he’s lived in Mill Valley for 30 years. “For a lot of musicians, all they know and love is music,” says Chad Smith, the drummer for the Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer who’s also in Chickenfoot with Hagar. “But Sammy is a businessman who loves making the deal.” Also, he’s about to launch a rum brand, and we get the whole back story behind the opening of Cabo Wabo in Cabo San Lucas, a place Hagar had never been to until he heard Keith Richards got married there.
