Closings

Pudong Closes, Lickity Split

Wasting no time with a failed concept, three-month-old Pudong in the former Mecca space (2029 Market) has shuttered. As SFoodie reports, the Shanghai-esque concept opened with former Shanghai 1930 chef Jason Xu at the helm just didn’t fly, and there’s no plans for any redos. We’ll say that the dumplings weren’t half bad, but things were a little pricey, the place felt pretty empty, and someone will need a lot more capital and some imagination to transform that space from the decidedly 90’s bar/lounge that was Mecca — the new carpet and Pier 1 Imports paper screens over the bar didn’t really cut it. The Yelpers, in this case, had mixed things to say, at best. [E.g., “Probably not the worst Chinese food I’ve had, but definitely the WORST for $300 (5 people).”]
