Mela Tandoori Kitchen Reopens, Bangkok 16 to Close, and More

Civic Center: Mela Tandoori Kitchen, which closed its O’Farrell Street location last year, has reopened in the former Kites space at 536 Golden Gate Avenue. The remodeled space includes a “traditional room” with low tables and even lower benches. See their new website and menu here. [Grub Street] Update: It turns out, the kitchen’s not actually up and running just yet. They need six weeks or so to get fully permitted, and for now, they’re just operating as a hookah lounge with beer and wine from 5 p.m. onward, Tuesday through Sunday.

Mission: Bangkok 16 (3214 16th Street) looks to be closing in the coming weeks or months and becoming Krua Thai Kitchen, under a new owner. [Grub Street]

Also, there’s been some construction activity down the block at the Il Cantuccio space (3228 16th Street, an arguably cursed spot) but neither we nor Eater has figured out the deets. [Eater]

Marina: A16 has got some new sound baffling, and Michael Bauer is lowering their noise rating from a bomb to three bells. Also, sidenote, his ears were “ringing” when he left Leopold’s recently. [Between Meals/Scoop]

San Mateo: Romolo’s Cannoli and Spumoni Factory comes very highly recommended. [SFoodie]
