San Francisco’s newest gay bar/BBQ venue, Rebel (1760 Market Street at Octavia), just opened last night, and as promised, there’s a vintage motorcycle theme to the décor — a kind of complement to Truck’s semi-trailer/truck stop theme. Co-owners Paul Miller (Truck), Duncan Ley and Ben Bleiman (Bullitt, Tonic) have done a swell job of giving the place a little more personality than the black box that was Triple Crown — including something the space dearly needed: a back bar, to take some of the pressure off that tiny and cramped front bar. Also, there’s something every quick-service bar in town should have: Fernet and Jameson on tap.

Look for Rebel to be an open-to-everyone, BBQ and happy hour joint, with food by Sneaky’s BBQ, seven nights a week from 5 p.m. ‘til about 9 or so. Then the place will start feeling a lot gayer, with a number of gay-specific parties on the docket including something called Stallion on Saturdays, Rebel (the signature) party on Fridays, and Cocktailgate, the drag show hosted by Suppositori Spelling, moving over here from Truck on Sundays. So lest you think the place was going to continue in the vein of Triple Crown and be host to a hodge-podge of parties both gay and straight, think again. Also, please note, they’re open until 4 a.m.

Now, feel free to take our virtual tour…
