Hopefully we don’t still have to convince you that Oakland is a happening place these days for food and drink, even if parts of downtown are still pretty ghostly most nights. Enter Disco Volante, from the minds of Tim Tolle (Ruby Room, Radio) and partners Damon Gallagher and Kevin Cook, which opened recently in an art deco, green-tiled building at 14th and Webster, at the edge of Oakland’s Chinatown, walking distance from the Fox. The name means “flying saucer” in Italian, but it’s also the name of a sixties-era Alfa Romeo model. It’s a bar and lounge, with a full food menu from chef Doug Bernstein (including lunch and dinner), as well as a live music venue — also, there is a jukebox. And the space is pretty cool! Check out our virtual tour.
