Gregory Dunmore, who received a Chron Rising Star honor back in 2006 for his work as executive chef at Ame, is opening a new California-Japanese place called Nojo (231 Franklin), which we previously noted coming into the new condo building at Franklin and Hayes, next door to The Grove. As Eater reports today, the opening date is set for March 30, but the place remains a construction zone one month out. The menu will have both yakitori and izakaya sections, as well as “a refined version of nikujaga, a traditional Japanese-style pot roast Dunmore will prepare with beef cheeks.”

Also of interest, Humphry Slocombe will develop some special Japanese-inspired ice cream flavors, and a mystery pasty chef of some renown will consult on the dessert menu as well. Lunch and Sunday brunch are also in the cards.
