Lucky Strike Lanes Moves Forward at SoMa Borders Spot

The upscale bowling alley/lounge chain Lucky Strike Lanes, which we heard last fall had its sights set on the big Borders location on King Street, looks to be going ahead with their plans to bring $9 cocktails, a dress code, and a whole new bridge-and-tunnel segment to the South Beach section of town. Grub Street finds their liquor license application going in this week for 200 King Street, quickly on the heels of Borders’ announcement that they’re going bankrupt. Lucky Strike already has several L.A. locations, as well as one in Manhattan and about a dozen others. NIMBY neighbors hinted at some objection to the move, preferring a quiet bookstore downstairs over a late-night, potentially loud spot replete with the clacking of balls and pins, but they do, after all, live across the street from a baseball stadium.
