Following on yesterday’s story about NYC’s Weather Up folks opening a new bar across from the Fox in Oakland, we find today that two other new bars are coming to the immediate vicinity, finally providing Fox Theater patrons with an adequate array of pre- and post-show drinking options. Opening just a block up at 1644 Telegraph will be Bar Dogwood, from proprietor Alexeis Filipello, a former co-owner of The House of Shields. This will be both an eating and drinking establishment, and as Alexeis told East Bay Cocktails, Bar Dogwood will feature “good inexpensive bar snacks with great cocktails and independent wines and beers,” along with a meat counter serving salami, cold seafood, and cheeses. Look for this place to open soon (the liquor license has already come through), along with an expansion of Flora, whose owners are planning a new 2,000-square-foot bar between Flora and the previously mentioned Xolo taqueria project.

Flora owner Dona Savitski says the bar will be connected to Flora and have a slightly younger vibe, though details remain a bit sketchy. Look for Xolo, however, to open by March.
