New Car Service Tells Mission Hipsters to Try Out Zeitgeist, Pancho Villa
Yeah. Let's round out this Friday with a truly hilarious marketing gaffe on the part of new car service company Uber. Yesterday they launched "Hipster Thursdays," clearly not understanding that no one refers to themselves as a "hipster," or admits to espousing anything that "hipsters" like, or appreciates being directly marketed to if they are, even sort of, a hipster. Arguably hipster-focused Mission blog Uptown Almanac responds, "Excuse me while I shiver alone in the dark and process this for awhile." The Thursday promotion is $5 off any car ride within the Mission. Why? "Because we <3 the Mission & want to pay for your PBR." Where do they recommend taking an Uber towncar? "Give your fixie a little breather," they write, and "explore" such strange and new venues as Pancho Villa, Bi-Rite Creamery, Dolores Park, and Zeitgeist. Way to go, people. You've just done more than alienate your clientele you've angered them.
Happy "Hipster Thursday" guys! [Uptown Almanac]
