Let Daniel Patterson Teach You How to Cook Placenta

Have you heard what all the cool kids are eating these days? The afterbirth of their own kids! Joel Stein wrote about his wife succumbing to the trend in Time in 2009, describing the placenta thusly: “It’s what your liver would look like if it got into an accident on the autobahn with one of those aliens from Mars Attacks!” Well, as some may know, star chef and frequent Times contributor Daniel Patterson recently had his second child with wife Alexandra Foote, and he must have picked up some new tricks this time around in terms of placenta preparation, because he’ll be teaching a class on March 17 at SFMoMA, in conjunction with Pop-Up Magazine, titled “How to Cook a Placenta.” Patterson says this is just “because life has been too humdrum of late.” And he promises there’ll be pictures, though we suppose no live demo or tastings — though if there were, Chris Cosentino would be on hand to tell you to suck it up and embrace the “jiggly.” As a friend quipped: It puts a whole new spin on the phrase “family meal.” [Dcpatterson/Twitter via MicheleMandell/Twitter]
