Ike’s Place to Expand to L.A.

Ike Shehadeh’s mini-empire of sandwich meccas may soon be not so mini! The Bay Citizen reports that Ike was in L.A. this week meeting with investors and scouting locations for some SoCal outposts of Ike’s Place. “I looked at maybe 20 locations,” Shehadeh said. “I got a really good vibe.” Among spots being considered, University City and adjacent to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood. Meanwhile up north, Ike’s new location at 3489 16th Street opens soon — following a NIMBY battle at their original outpost that gripped the attention of food-blog-reading San Francisco for months — and he’s got another branch opening in the student center at S.F. State in March. Below, for those unfamiliar in L.A., see Ike’s 2009 appearance on Man vs. Food, which is partly responsible for the perennial lines of twentysomething dudes waiting for Ike’s whimsically named, gut-bomb sandwiches.
