Blackbird Has a New Drink Named in Honor of Kenny Powers

Among the new seasonal cocktail offerings around town that Alcademics alerts us to today, we note something that could surely become a new favorite of ours: La Flama Blanca at Blackbird. It’s a mezcal drink with maraschino, cinnamon, and bitters, and it’s named for the nickname given to pitcher Kenny Powers (Danny McBride) on HBO’s Eastbound and Down while he’s in exile playing for a Mexican baseball team called the Churros. Translation: The White Flame. We’re pretty sure Kenny would fuckin’ hate it, but he’s more a beer-and-cocaine man anyhow.

Also of note: Rickhouse premiered a winter menu called Requiem for a Drink, which includes something called a Caribbean Knife Fight (Blade gin, Dolin blanc, allspice dram), and a bourbon-maple-apple-lemon drink called Our Finest Sour.

Ame’s new drink menu has a hot toddy named for Willie Brown with Laird’s Apple Jack, star anise, cinnamon, clove, allspice syrup, molé bitters, hot water, and lemon juice.

And Blackbird has two new barrel-aged cocktails out of the barrel: the Bonnie & Clyde, a white whiskey drink with Dolin blanc, chamomile liqueur, and baked apple bitters; and Cortez the Killer, which is Luna Azul tequila, Bonal Gentaine Quina, and crème de cacao.
