And In Further Wine-Bar-Opening News, Barrique Comes to Jackson Square

Screw wine on tap. Let’s drink it right out of the barrel shall we? The Chron’s Inside Scoop column mentioned it a couple of months ago, but now Barrique is ready to open just across the street from Cotogna and Quince at 461 Pacific. The concept is wine directly from the barrel, upping the sustainability and freshness quotients by cutting out the bottling, and owner Jim Howell hopes the barrel thing “demystifies the wine experience by putting less focus on the winemaker and brand, and more emphasis on the terroir, the farmer, and the appellations.” Words like “terroir” and “appelations” are of course part of what mystify people, but anyway, sounds fun! Pending some permits, Howell hopes to possibly open next week. [Scoop, Earlier]
