OPENwater Event Brings Together Food, Art, Water… Will Probably Be Intense

OPENresturant describes itself as a “project of a collective of restaurant professionals who sought to move their environment to an art space as a way to experiment with the language of their daily activities.” The project is in conjunction with SFMoMA (they butchered a pig there back in ‘08), and the idea is to make the food part of the art, and vice versa. The group’s next event OPENwater, at St. George Spirits in Alameda, is an exploration of how water flows around the Bay Area. The event spans most of the days of November 13 and 14, with two dinners and a lunch on Sunday, and features video, a 3D sound environment, panel discussions and “informal encounters” with artists, fishermen, biologists and preservationists.

The meals will be cooked by Cal Peternell (Chez Panisse), Chris Lee (Eccolo), and Chris Kronner (Bar Tartine).

Sources tell us that the group’s last event was “mind-blowing.” It all starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 13, and admission is free. Drinks and bar food start at $5, and the price of dinner is $65.
