Ike’s Place (Possibly) Relocating Once Again, Just Up the Street From Old Location
Pending an approval from Planning to turn the former Joseph Schmidt Confections (3489 16th Street) into a self-service restaurant, Ike's Place will be moving yet again within the same two-block radius in the Castro come January 2. Eater breaks the news, via a public notice in the Joseph Schmidt window, and the move will mean an end to Ike's current predicament in which the shop operates out of the kitchen at Lime until 7 p.m. each day. Getting a quick approval for the project from Planning is not guaranteed, however, given the battle that went on most of this year between owner Ike Shehadeh and the upstairs neighbors at his former location over noise, sidewalk crowding, and sandwich odors. Things may depend on the amenability of the tenants and property surrounding the new space, which is only slightly larger than the original and will at least allow for indoor counter service.
