Grub Street to San Francisco Chefs: ‘Where Were You When the Giants Clinched the World Series?’
Last night was big. The Giants won their first World Series since 1954, and the first ever for the city of San Francisco. Restaurants and bars, especially the ones close to AT&T Park at 4th and King, got pretty trashed, as did most everyone in the greater Bay Area. The L.A. Times and many Twitter users quickly decided there were riots breaking out, but to many revelers, they were just trying to have a good time. Public House, Traci Des Jardins's ballpark eatery, sold about 15,000 beers, even though this wasn't a home game. And Grub Street polled a group of local chefs, most of whom had last night off because it was Monday, to ask them the all-important question: "Where were you when San Francisco won its first World Series?"
Elizabeth Falkner (Orson, Citizen Cake): "Driving back from a meeting at the new Citizen Cake and driving down California Street through downtown and I could hear everyone cheering and honking! Super cool!!"
Matthew Accarrino (SPQR): "Eating takeout food, tweaking recipes for my cooking class at Macy's in New York next week."
Jessica Boncutter (Bar Jules): "At the Tadich Grill! Oldest restaurant in San Francisco -- slurping oysters and drinking Sierra Nevada! Don't get more S.F. than that! It was craziness downtown..."
Joshua Skenes (Saison): "Sitting in the office doing menu work and streaming the game on the computer. Then went out to eat afterward in the Mission. It was insane."
