A Coffee at Benu Costs Sixteen Dollars

For some reason Michael Bauer continues to defend, and explain, his three-and-a-half-star review of hot new haute spot Benu—in particular his choice to quote a Yelperish, Philistine reader in the text of his review as a sort of second opinion—but we’re most interested in a detail that had slipped by us about the restaurant’s pricing, which serves as a kind of sidebar dig that he chose not to mention in the review: a cup of Blue Bottle Three Africans coffee, albeit in a lovely, handmade white ceramic cup, is $16 (maybe that’s the price for a full pot?). Perhaps we shouldn’t be shocked, but Bauer seems to be, so this is us feigning shock in return. [Between Meals/Scoop] Update: We further inspected the dessert menu, and it appears there is a $5 “Benu blend” coffee options from Lamill coffee, in addition to the $16 option from Equator, not Blue Bottle as Bauer had it.
