Michael Chiarello discusses a few envelope-pushing places that are on his restaurant radar right now, and given his homey Italian aesthetic, they may surprise you. As he writes on the Scoop, he was on the edge of his seat the whole meal and loved the “theater” of José Andrés’s Minibar in D.C. He was also “blown away” by Andrés’s The Bazaar in L.A., where “the meal’s syncopation was impeccable, every plate set in front of us at exactly the right moment.” And he’s also a fan of the “simultaneously awesome and outrageous” dishes at Animal, as well as food that Michael White is doing at Marea in New York, which also happened to take home the Beard this year for Best New Restaurant.
