A disgruntled former employee sent out a blast to the food blogs just now claiming that Joe DiMaggio’s Italian Chophouse is in some serious financial trouble and is only keeping the bar open through the World Series (does that mean tonight?) in order to “make some last minute cash to pay the staff.” Grub Street first heard rumors about Joe DiMaggio’s being for sale a full year ago, and as of April there was a notice in the restaurant’s window stating they were behind in rent by about $16,000. Says the tipster, who clearly has no love for owner Jeff Dudum, “The worst part is that many employees have been loyal to the Dudums the whole four years they have been open even though the paychecks always bounced and the servers couldn’t collect their tips ‘til weeks later.” [Grub Street, Earlier] Update: The place has, in fact, closed. They may reconcept, they may just sell it. [Scoop]
