That big building with the columns at 1000 Van Ness, home to the AMC cinema, has a new tenant: Holly’s Comedy Club, at the mezzanine level, from former actress and Bay Area denizen Holly Horn. Along with partner Kjell Qvale (pronounced “shell” “kah-volley,” former President of Golden Gate Fields race track), Holly hopes to bring back the vibrant community of comics that existed here when she first started performing here in the late 70s. The club’s lounge, which will have a food menu, features hand-carved wood tables and leopard-print rugs. The menu will features sliders and small plates, late-night omelets (both Holly and Qvale love omelets), and a weeknight air-popped popcorn bar with various fixings.

The opening headliner for Holly’s, the weekend of November 4, 5, and 6, is comedian David Crowe, who has won both the Seattle and San Francisco Stand-up Comedy Competitions and once performed for Bill Clinton.

And instead of the industry standard two-drink minimum, Holly’s will have a two-item minimum for those who would prefer to eat, rather than booze it up.

Holly’s Comedy Club - 1000 Van Ness, mezzanine level - 415.346.5597 - Open Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Saturday. Opens November 4.
