Bauer Loves the Cocktails But Not the Food at Spoonbar

Michael Bauer headed up to Healdsburg for his Sunday review, to the recently opened Spoonbar at the H2 Hotel. He quickly concludes that Scott Beattie’s cocktail program “far outstrips the food created by Rudy Mihal,” and he’s annoyed that Beattie’s big thirty-page manifesto/cocktail list isn’t handed out to every diner (see his earlier mini-rant about this here). He says, “If you order only the small plates and skip over the main courses on the quasi-Mediterranean menu, you’ll have a satisfying meal,” and he recommends the “pleasing” Caesar salad, the flatbreads and dips, and the roasted beet tartare which “is sure to become a signature.” He gives the place two stars, but only one and a half for the food.
