San Francisco’s answer to Aspen’s Food & Wine spectacular went down last weekend, and it’s really one of the only events in town where the whole food and beverage industry comes together to celebrate itself, and to make everyone in attendance very full and very drunk. As Lady Tablehopper Marcia Gagliardi put it, “This and the Meals on Wheels benefit are the two annual events chefs most seem to enjoy participating in.” The week kicked off with some seminars and smaller parties, but the centerpiece of the weekend were the grand tasting events in the tent on Union Square, featuring a rotating cast of notable chefs around town, several bad cover bands, a drag show, and some gut-busting food.

Food highlights for us included Bar Bambino’s arancini with risotto, lamb and cheese; Chris Cosentino’s pork-liver-filled chicharrone; Melissa Perello’s tasty pancake with peach and bacon; Banks White’s braised pork with johnnycakes and Hollandaise; Dosa’s delicious lamb meatball; Hoss Zarés refreshing vegetarian kefte; and Matt Accarrino’s exquisite lamb dumpling with sage brown butter.
