Today in clever promotion news: Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in North Beach, whose intriguing but still un-clarified expansion plans into the La Spiaggia space next door we discussed in May, is hiding “golden tickets” under pizzas which will allow 100 lucky winners into a sneak preview event of the new space. The Wonka-esque promotion will start this Friday, and sometime soon we should have some clearer understanding of what Tony meant when he said that their new concept for the space would be “something that San Francisco has never seen.” [Grub Street] Update: Tony reveals all to the Scoop, and the part we’ve “never seen” is a coal-fired pizza oven which will be run by Grimaldi’s vet Eric Corbin. He’ll also be filling other gaps in the S.F. food pantheon, including New York-style slices, a New York delicatessen, Chicago-style Italian beef sandwiches, and egg creams.
