Chefs got a tablespoon wealthier last year, as we see from the 2009 data on chef salaries from StarChefs.com. Average wages for executive chefs and pastry chefs went up about 6 percent since 2008, while sous chef salaries sank a bit. The highest salaries in the country are in New York, San Francisco and Miami, with execs pulling in $100,000 annually; Boston chefs make about $13,000 less. As for women chefs, who represent only 13 percent of the executive chef category nationally, they have reason to cry fowl (sorry): they make about 24 percent less than their male counterparts.
