Berkeley Gets On the Neapolitan Pizza Bandwagon

Joining the upcoming Neapolitan pizza fray descending on the Bay Area is Paisan, a new wood-fired pie place from Berkeley restaurateurs Haig Krikorian and Cindy Lalime of K2 Restaurant Group. As SFoodie’s John Birdsall tells us, Paisan is adjacent to another K2 restaurant, Sea Salt, at 2514-2516 San Pablo Avenue, and it should be opening shortly.

Also of note, K2 just purchased a share of the Cesar restaurants in Oakland and Berkeley as well.

And just to recap, in re: the new pizza wave, we’ve got Zero Zero opening next week; Una Pizza Napoletana from NY’s Anthony Mangieri opening hopefully in August; Tony’s opening a coal-fired offshoot in a week or two; Farina opening Antica Pizza Napoletana any month now; Jon Darsky from Flour + Water still contemplating his own joint; Arizmendi opening next door to Heart at Valencia and 24th probably within a month or two; Ragazza (from the Gialina folks) coming this fall; and Lark Creek Pizza coming to the Westfield this fall.
