Last night was the seventh annual Star Chefs and Vintners Gala, which benefits Meals on Wheels and which featured the work of over 70 chefs from around the Bay Area, headed up by gala chair Nancy Oakes. At both the opening reception and the sit-down dinner which was catered by seven separate teams of chefs, each creating different three-course menus there were some delectable eats and some seriously nice wines being poured.
The abundance of booze which included the cocktail handiwork in the opening hours by the likes of Scott Baird (15 Romolo), Brooke Arthur (the upcoming Prospect), Scott Beattie (the upcoming Spoonbar in Healdburg), and Daniel Hyatt (The Alembic) was of course meant to loosen up bidders for both the silent and live auction, with the aim of raising at least a half million dollars for Meals on Wheels. We don't know yet how much was raised, but we do know that a dinner for eight, cooked by chef Staffan Terje of Perbacco at the Paul Hobbs Winery went for $30,000, and a dinner in your own kitchen cooked by Nancy Oakes with some rare champagnes went for $15,000.
But the food was truly the star. If you have the means, we'd highly recommend throwing down for this good cause next year, because you won't go home hungry. See our highlights, via slideshow.
