Kauffman Is Lukewarm About Local: Mission Eatery; Reidinger Mildly Endorses South End Grill ’n’ Bar

Jonathan Kauffman sounds supportive but not entirely enthusiastic about the “complicated mission” of Local: Mission Eatery, which includes a daytime sandwich shop, bakery, cooking class venue, library, and pop-up locavore restaurant. He especially likes Jake Des Voignes’s asparagus and egg sandwich, and he calls the dinner he had there “not a perfect meal, but a good one.” Question: even though the place serves lunch and dinner, shouldn’t Kauffman have had more than one dinner there before issuing a review? [SF Weekly]

Reidinger heads to South End Grill ‘n’ Bar and dwells on the fact that “grill” comes before “bar” in this case. He goes so far as to call the potato skins “plush to the tooth” and says overall, “Little flaws permeate the cooking, but without seriously diminishing its pleasures.” [SFBG]
