It’s been said that 2009 was the year that Oakland finally made it onto the foodie map, with the high profile openings of Camino and Pican, Adesso’s Beard recognition, and Commis taking home the city’s first Michelin star. Diablo magazine has just done a thorough tour of the restaurant and bar highlights around town, from Temescal to Jack London Square and the ‘hoods in between, including the likes of newcomers like Mua and Hibiscus.

The piece also points to a couple news items to keep on the radar: former Michael Mina chef Jena Davidson is planning a wine and cheese retail shop called The Sacred Wheel, somewhere near SR24 in Temescal; and that expansion of Sparky’s burgers that we noted earlier on Piedmont Avenue is set for a June opening.
