North Beach Italian eatery Mangarosa, which featured Brazilian Mardi Gras festivities every Thursday night, will shutter on Friday after six years in business. Owners Gina and Marcello Betti and Renato Fusari, who also own pizzerias in Marin, have posted a letter on their site saying that they maintain the possibility of reopening “somewhere, sometime in the near future.” But it appears that the building owners aren’t renewing the lease in favor of using the space themselves.

According to the ABC, building owners Carlo and Michael Nuovo, who formerly owned Michaelangelo Caffe on Columbus Avenue, are going back into the restaurant business with something called Café Maria. Unfortunately this sounds like a straight-up, tourist-friendly Italian joint similar to all the others in the neighborhood, but we’ll try to maintain an open mind.
