Sommelier Matthew Straus’s 48-seat project at 2500 Folsom Street, called Heirloom Café, appears on track to open shortly. As Grub Street discovers, they’ve just secured a liquor license, and as the Chron reported back in February, Straus (formerly of Wilshire and Grace in L.A.) is planning a simple, wine-friendly food menu with items like mussels and cassoulet, with a very focused wine program. “Rather than reaching wide,” Stacy Finz wrote, “Straus is focusing on about 25 top producers from around the world, building a list that reaches deep into a 3,600-bottle cellar, including bottles of Hanzell Pinot Noir dating to the early 1970s.”
