The Underground Farmers’ Market Isn’t So Underground Anymore

Thanks to consistent coverage on all the local food news outlets since their December launch, forageSF’s Underground Farmers’ Market has turned into a pretty above-ground affair. As Beer & Nosh and other blogs show us, the only thing that distinguished this past weekend’s event in SOMA from a city-sanctioned market was the required membership sign-up for this “private” event (intended to avoid another health department wrist-slap) and the tight door controls.

The huge line that wrapped around the block eclipsed even peak hour lines at certain stands at the Ferry Building market, so it would seem that, as with all clever ideas that begin underground, this one will be crossing over to the mainstream very soon.
