What to Eat at Heart Wine Bar, Open Today in the Mission

Jeff Segal’s idealistic take on an Italian osteria, Heart wine bar, opened this afternoon at 1270 Valencia. It comes complete with a professionally curated art gallery, a long list of mostly European wines, and a small-plates menu from Kitchenette. They may have a slightly too clinical logo for a wine bar — and we take issue with naming a nut mix “fibrillation” — but we’re still totally psyched to have a new oenofile destination in Mission, being the winos that we are.

Later this year, they’ll be joined in an adjacent space by Arizmendi Bakery, the worker-owned cooperative whose pizzas have commanded a voracious cult following in the East Bay for over a decade. With the combination of wine, Kitchenette bites, and pizza, this is likely to become the biggest hub of foodie activity south of 18th Street.
