What to Eat at Leticia’s, Reopening Today in the Castro

Most Castro denizens should remember Leticia’s, the boozy Mexican joint that closed to make way for Lalo’s a few years back, and ultimately Lime. Chef Gonzalo Ramirez revives the brand, now in the prominent, 15th and Market, triangular-shaped former location of Thai House Express. Leticia’s was always known more for its large, cheap margaritas than it was for its food, but you won’t be able to enjoy the booze until the liquor license comes through. They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner starting today, and the owners have added sandwiches and burgers to the basic menu, which is otherwise unchanged from five years ago. They still make a mean enchilada and a delicious, roasted (not fried) chile relleno (pictured) — a perfect alcohol-soak-up meal after any given Sunday’s day-drinking in the ‘hood.
