Stafford Gives Mild Applause to Mayes Oyster House; Reidinger Raves About Chilango

• Matt Stafford, in one of his final pinch-hitting pieces for the Weekly before the new critic comes to town, reviews the newly re-opened, 100+-year-old Mayes Oyster House, calling the bouillabaisse “creditable” and the salmon carpaccio “yummy.” [SF Weekly]

• Writing in the Guardian, Paul Reidinger says that new mid-range Church Street Mexican, Chilango, “doesn’t have the pedigree of Nopalito” but adds, “you will be hard-pressed to find more flavorful, colorful, healthful, and affordable food anywhere in town.” [SFBG]

• Carey Sweet trekked up to Petaluma to review beer-and-franks place Taps, giving props to the BLT dog, and saying “If you don’t care for dogs, you shouldn’t be here.” [Chron]

• Also, this weekend, Monsieur Bauer bestowed an encouraging two and half stars on the new Out the Door, gushing especially over the baguettes used in the sandwiches, and pre-empting those “who will inevitably compare the restaurant to something they love on Larkin Street at half the price, but that’s a tired debate.” [Chron]

• The Tablehopper last week put in a decent review of Pizza Nostra, noting that the place isn’t all about pizza, and giving special attention to the rarely seen tronchetto, “which is like a Neapolitan ‘Hot Pocket.’” [Tablehopper]
