New details emerged today about plans for the three-level Warfield building restaurant by the Foreign Cinema/Show Dogs team (John Clark and Gayle Pirie), which is still set to open this year. Building owner David Addington who appeared along with Mayor Gavin Newsom at an event today at Show Dogs to discuss arts and theater projects in the Mid-Market area wasn't able to go into great detail but did tell us that, like the basement-level speakeasy which will connect to the Warfield Theater, the menu at the restaurant will have a "vintage" theme, with dishes inspired by those popular in San Francisco 100 years ago and an overall French bistro angle.
Most of today's event focused on enlivening the cultural, theater and entertainment district anchored by the Warfield and the Golden Gate Theater, and on the new addition to the neighborhood, the Gray Area Foundation for the Arts all of which would provide potential customers for the new restaurant. Newsom announced the availability of $11.5 million in low-interest loans to businesses, and we're pretty sure Addington is taking the mayor up one of these loans.
Along with Curbed's news of a restaurant and rooftop bar moving in to the Grant Building at 7th and Market, and things like Split Pea Seduction, Farmer Brown, and Cancun already nearby at 6th, this stretch of Market looks to become less of a culinary wasteland in the very near future.
