Hey look at SF Food Wars, making the New York Times just months after its August debut. Why all the attention? Well, SFFW really captures this thing that we’re all sort of after: Community-oriented, gourmet food on a budget. “The movement is driven in part by the harsh financial climate, which has prompted people to cook their own meals rather than eat at restaurants. But it is also providing a way for food lovers to share their passion and knowledge on a more egalitarian level than the elite San Francisco food scene provides,” notes writer Tara Duggan. However it’s not totally egalitarian. With event tickets selling out just an hour after they go on sale, those with the fastest internet connection and mouse-fingers hold a distinct advantage.
