SEIU Mayoral Protest at Plumpjack by Coincidence

This evening, members of SEIU1021, which represents some the city’s workers, will sing and pass out fliers in front of Plumpjack Wines in Noe Valley to protest Mayor Gavin Newsom’s failure to keep low-level city workers employed through the holidays. As Noe Valley Blog points out though, he’ll have to get the message through his sister Hilary, as Gavin sold his San Francisco interests in the company when he became mayor in 2004. Of course, SEIU spokesman Carlos Rivera says the union knows this. “It’s a misunderstanding. We know he released his interest in Plumpjack… If we’re going to be singing and caroling and calling Newsom a grinch, we want people to hear us, and 24th and Noe is a pretty busy area,” Rivera said. So the location in front of Plumpjack Wines is a total coincidence? “Yes. We’re also singing at 18th and Castro, and the Mayor doesn’t own anything there.”
