The current inception of the Cliff House turns 100 this year, and the historians are out to party. In addition to dancing, drinking, and a tasting menu, the November 4 centennial gala will feature a bevy of historical artifacts from throughout the site's history. Ever since Senator John Buckley and C.C. Butler built the first Cliff House in 1863, San Franciscans have been putting in their leisure time on the perch above Ocean Beach. Throughout the years, some attractions have faded from memory. While everybody knows of Playland at the Beach and the Sutro Baths, few probably remember the Japanese Tea House or the Sky Tram that once ferried visitors to Point Lobos.
