Remembering Myth Owner Tom Duffy

Well, it’s a sad day, but they do say deaths like this come in threes: According to the Tablehopper, Myth owner Tom Duffy has died, on the heels of Ben’s Chili Bowl founder Ben Ali, and former Flying Saucer owner Albert Tordjman. Duffy, who grew up in the Castro when it was called Eureka Valley, got his start in the restaurant industry delivering fish some 50 years ago, he told Marcia Gagliardi in a past interview. His first restaurant projects were the Normandy Tea Room at City of Paris and the employees’ cafeteria at I. Magnin’s. He started Myth in early 2005, and it closed in late 2008, but its reputation seems a lot bigger than a four-year run would warrant. The space is now the new home of Quince, so fine dining carries on at 470 Pacific Ave.
