Zebulon Struggles Through Transbay Construction

At some point, the re-building of the Transbay Terminal is going to displace about 30 nearby businesses, including Zebulon, but the relocation date keeps changing and in the meantime all that construction is driving away customers. “Everybody thinks we’re closed down. With the construction going on, people don’t want to come with the dust and the noise,” Zebuolon bar manager Joseph Mendoza told Grub Street. Several nearby businesses have refused to sign an eviction agreement because the uncertain move-date has cost them money in lost bookings, the Examiner reported today. Mendoza said Zebulon plans to move to the space under the Barclay’s Global Investors headquarters at 400 Howard St. in January, which is the latest move-date handed down by the Transbay Joint Powers Authority. But he said the confusion surrounding the deadline has been a headache. “It’s a bit of a help, but a bit of a hindrance. Are they going to postpone longer? At first it was September, then October, then November. Now they’re saying the final [deadline] is January.”
