SPQR closed its doors for its remodel today, and when they reopen in two weeks you'll be able to make a reservation and get brunch at the formerly walk-in only place. Owner Shelley Lindgren told Grub Street today that the decision to finally accept reservations came just at the last minute as they were heading into the remodel. "We decided while we were changing we might as well look at everything," she said. Half the dining room will still be available for walk-ins and the other half can be booked through the new OpenTable account.
Meanwhile, new chef Matt Accarrino started last week and put a couple of specials on the menu that sold out in less than an hour. He'll be working with the kitchen staff on a whole new menu over the next two weeks, including a dedicated brunch menu that will go way beyond the current selection of small plates and a couple mains. They're also cutting out weekday lunch, but will stay open till 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 10:30 p.m. the rest of the week. "Even though we're just under two years of being open, there's a lot that needs to be cleaned up, and it feels like a good time to refresh everything," Lindgren said.
