What You Missed at (the Rest of) SF Chefs.Food.Wine

After gorging on over-sized personalities and bacon-wrapped prunes at last Thursday’s opening reception for SF Chefs.Food.Wine, we stayed at it through the weekend, keeping up a steady flow of food samples and banter. At Saturday’s Urban BBQ, meat dominated the menu. Big Jim’s BBQ really blew us away with the pulled pork sandwich, with pork smoked for 21 hours and sauce he made especially for the event. Indeed, the San Francisco Gourmet BBQ Sauce was possibly the most perfect tangy, spicy barbecue sauce we’ve had in a long time. Later, Urban Tavern’s watermelon and shrimp salad skewers turned out to be a welcomed refreshment after all the salty meat consumed. Sunday’s lighter, cold-soup-and-ceviche menu matched the warmer weather. A highlight was Murray Circle’s sweet pea gazpacho, which tasted just like sweet peas and nothing else — we found the simplicity incredibly satisfying. In case you couldn’t make it, check out our slideshow for a look at what foods were on the spread, and check in with the flickr pool for more scenes from San Francisco’s seminal challenge to Aspen.
