Crissy Field Winery Project Killed

A Sonoma County winemaker won’t open a winery in a Crissy Field airplane hangar, but as he looks for another San Francisco location to house his Foggy Bridge Winery, he’s already distributing bottles with the Golden Gate Bridge logo on them. The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reported today that the Presidio Trust didn’t think the project by Geyser Peak Winery’s Daryl Groom would be a “good fit” for the location just east of the Golden Gate Bridge, as it’s only served by a two-lane access road, and all the other facilities around there are recreational. Still, it would have been neat to sit in the 120-seat restaurant and sip some extremely local wine before heading back out into the cold. The place would have been crowded with bikers in spandex and tourists in shorts, though, which may not have fit Groom’s vision of the place, so perhaps this is a blessing in disguise.
